First garment sewing!

It was sometime back in October 2021 when I was chatting with a friend who had started to sew her own clothes, I told her that I had been to sewing classes about 30 years ago and couldn't remember a thing about garment sewing. But I'd done what everyone else had done at the beginning of the pandemic and made some masks. She encouraged me to have a go at something easy with fabric from my stash. So I did.

A few years ago I'd bought some fabric because I liked the look of it, but with no project in mind, so I rescued it from the bottom of the stash cupboard and began to search for a suitable pattern.

Somehow, during a google search I came across Trevor Loves Mommy's website (alas no longer running) and found her free pyjama pattern. I downloaded and then...this is where I discovered the joys (and trials and tribulations) of PDF patterns. A pattern you can print at home? Things had definitely changed over the last few years!

Once I'd pieced the pattern together and cut it out I then laid the fabric on to it. Only to discover...pattern matching. This was way beyond my skill level!!!! But...pyjamas. Who cares if they don't match?

Turns out, I do!

So I tried to match the stripes, all but closed my eyes and cut, hoping it would turn out okay and realising that it would all be too late anyway.

Following the pattern was simple. The instructions were great and what I didn't understand I just looked for on You Tube. The pyjamas were finished in no time at all.

And...phew! the pattern matching is all good!
